I put up a recent post analyzing if it's noticeably hotter yet, and in talking with a co-worker I realized a tool might help visualize that in a way that's more intuitive for people so I wrote one.
The tool can be found here: http://cityprojections.com/summerHighHistograms.html
The way the tool works is that it takes all daily high temperatures in June, July, and August for 1892-1912 and 1992-2012, converts them into a histogram, and plots them. From that, you can see how the distribution of summer temperatures changed through the 20th century.
You still get cold days now, and you got hot days before, but in most cities, the whole distribution shifts towards higher temperatures so the cold days are rarer and the extremely hot days are more common.
If you have any ideas for how to make this more intuitive, just post a comment to let me know.
